SAFARI QATAR SERVICES — C.R. 48259
Inspection and technical services for Qatar's oil, gas and marine sector
Licensed activities 4100013 · 4773163 · 4773844 · 4923020
Safari Qatar Services works on the execution side of Qatar's energy industry: offshore platform construction, marine machinery repair, oilfield spare-parts supply, and heavy transport of goods and equipment. Each of those four scopes sits on our own commercial register — the activity code is printed beside every service line on this page, and you can check each one against C.R. 48259.
Inspection is how we control that work. We plan, witness and document quality against the client's Inspection and Test Plan, we mobilise certified inspection and NDT personnel to the work front, and we coordinate accredited third parties where the deliverable has to be issued by an accredited body rather than by us. Where a credential belongs to a partner rather than to Safari Qatar Services, this page says so on the same line.
HOW WE ARE STRUCTURED
What we perform ourselves, and what we coordinate
An inspection buyer's first question in Qatar is not "can you do it" — it is "under whose licence, and whose accreditation." We answer that before you ask.
We perform inspection and quality control inside our own contracted scopes: the structural steel we fabricate, the hook-up and tie-in work we execute, the machinery we overhaul, and the material we supply. That work sits comfortably within our licensed construction, repair and trading activities and produces the records you would expect — inspection and test plans, weld maps, torque and tensioning registers, material traceability files and mechanical completion dossiers.
Where the deliverable must be an independent certificate — an accredited inspection body report under ISO/IEC 17020, an accredited laboratory test report under ISO/IEC 17025, a statutory lifting certificate, or a radiographic examination requiring a radiation source licence — we contract and manage an accredited provider and hand you their certificate under our project management. We do not present ourselves as an accredited inspection body, because a body that also builds, maintains and supplies the equipment cannot claim Type A independence for those same items.
Catering, camp services and manpower supply are contracted through Allive Team Services, not through Safari Qatar Services.
SECTION 01 — INSPECTION
Inspection scopes we plan, staff and manage
Every assignment starts from your specification and your Inspection and Test Plan, not from a generic checklist. We agree the hold and witness points before mobilisation, name the inspector who will attend each one, and issue reports on your template within an agreed turnaround.
-
Third-party inspection assignments Inspection against the purchase specification, the applicable code and the client's ITP, delivered through accredited third-party bodies under our management where an independent certificate is required, and by our own quality personnel where the deliverable is contractor quality control. Outputs: inspection visit reports, non-conformance reports, punch lists and a final release note. Where an independent certificate is required, the accreditation of the body appointed for that scope, and the schedule it covers, are put in front of you before appointment; the certificate is issued in that body's name, not ours. We hold no inspection-body accreditation of our own.
-
Vendor and source inspection Inspection at the manufacturer's works before shipment, so defects are found at source rather than at the gate in Ras Laffan. Scope ladder, client-selectable: pre-inspection meeting, ITP and procedure review, raw-material identification and mill-certificate review to EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2, WPS/PQR and welder qualification review, in-process inspection at prescribed hold and witness points, hydrostatic, pneumatic, seat-tightness and functional test witnessing, NDT and coating witnessing, Factory Acceptance Test attendance, final visual and dimensional inspection, documentation and certificate verification, and release for shipment.
-
Expediting and vendor surveillance Desk expediting and resident expediting against the vendor's manufacturing and progress schedule. We verify that the reported schedule is real, trace sub-supplier bottlenecks, report slippage against milestones early enough to act on it, and coordinate shipping release and documentation so the package and its dossier arrive together.
-
Welding inspection WPS and PQR review to ASME Section IX or ISO 15614, welder and welding-operator qualification record review, consumable control and storage checks, pre-heat and interpass temperature monitoring, fit-up and root inspection, visual weld inspection to AWS D1.1 or API 1104, weld mapping and traceability, PWHT chart review, and supervision of weld repairs. Inspector qualification is set by your specification rather than asserted by us: we name the individual proposed for each assignment and submit their record for your acceptance before mobilisation, and where the specification calls for a qualification we cannot evidence, we say so and the scope goes to a company that can.
-
Painting and coating inspection Surface preparation and blast profile verification to ISO 8501-1 and ISO 8503, climatic and dew-point control, wet and dry film thickness, holiday and pinhole detection, adhesion and hardness testing, and compilation of the coating dossier against ISO 12944, NORSOK M-501 or the project specification. Coating inspection stands on the readings and their record: gauges carrying in-date calibration certificates, readings logged against the acceptance criteria in the specification as the work proceeds, and a dossier built during the job rather than reconstructed at handover.
-
Lifting equipment inspection and load testing Thorough examination and periodic inspection of cranes, hoists, slings, shackles, eyebolts, chain blocks, lever hoists, spreader beams and man-riding baskets, with proof load testing at 1.25× or 1.5× SWL using calibrated weights or water-bag systems, supported by MPI and DPI of hooks, pins, padeyes and structural welds. In Qatar the statutory certificate must be issued by an approved third-party certifying authority, which we are not: the examination is arranged with an approved authority and the certificate is issued in their name. Our own scope is the preparation, the rigging and the test arrangement — calibrated weights or water-bag systems, load cell verification — and an equipment register kept current so nothing on site stays in service past its examination date.
-
Static equipment and asset integrity support In-service inspection support to API 510 for pressure vessels, API 570 for process piping and API 653 for aboveground storage tanks — thickness monitoring location surveys, corrosion mapping, remaining-life calculation and inspection reporting — together with risk-based inspection support to API RP 580 and 581. API in-service inspection certification is held by individuals, not by companies. Where the report must carry a certified inspector's signature, the person proposed is named and their certificate checked on the API register before mobilisation; where the scope is support to your own certified inspector, the deliverable is survey data and reporting, and we describe it that way.
-
Documentation, dossiers and close-out Inspection records are a deliverable, not an afterthought. We compile and hand over the manufacturing record book or quality dossier — ITP signed at every point, material certificates, weld maps and NDT reports, heat treatment charts, test certificates, calibration certificates for the equipment used, non-conformance and concession records, and the final release documentation — indexed to the client's numbering system.
SECTION 02 — NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING
NDT methods, and what each one is actually for
NDT is specified by method, not by brand. The table below is the working set we specify, coordinate and manage, with the typical application. Where a method is delivered by a licensed specialist under our management rather than by us, the offer says so. Personnel certification is the gate, and it belongs to the technician rather than to the company: the scheme, level and method your specification demands are checked against the individual proposed before mobilisation, and any method we cannot staff to that standard is subcontracted openly rather than quietly. Radiographic testing is subject to source licensing and is described separately below.
| Visual testing (VT) | Weld profile, fit-up, surface condition, dimensional and coating checks — the first and cheapest method, and the one most often skipped. |
|---|---|
| Liquid penetrant testing (PT) | Surface-breaking defects in ferrous and non-ferrous material — welds, castings, machined surfaces, lifting gear. |
| Magnetic particle inspection (MT) | Surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic material — structural welds, crane hooks, padeyes, shafts and forgings. |
| Ultrasonic testing (UT) | Volumetric weld examination and wall-thickness measurement — thickness monitoring locations, corrosion surveys and weld flaw detection. |
| Phased array UT (PAUT) | Imaged, encoded and recordable volumetric weld data to ASME Section V and ISO 13588 — the code-accepted alternative to radiography, with no source licence required. |
| Time-of-flight diffraction (TOFD) | Accurate through-wall flaw sizing from tip-diffracted signals — normally paired with PAUT on pressure welds. |
| Automated UT (AUT) | Mechanised encoded scanning of pipeline girth welds and corrosion mapping, with a permanent digital record. |
| Eddy current and array (ECT / ECA) | Surface cracking including through paint and thin coatings — welds, tubes, and non-ferrous components. |
| Pulsed eddy current (PEC) | Wall-loss screening through insulation and cladding without stripping — the practical front line against corrosion under insulation. |
| IRIS, RFT and NFT | Heat exchanger, air cooler and boiler tube bundle inspection — wall loss, pitting and cracking inside tubes. |
| Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) | Fast screening of tank floors and pipe walls for corrosion, ahead of targeted UT confirmation. |
| ACFM | Detection and sizing of surface-breaking cracks through coatings — offshore structural nodes and welds without blasting. |
| Positive material identification (PMI) | On-site alloy verification by portable XRF or optical emission spectroscopy, against the mill certificate and the line list. |
| Hardness, ferrite and vacuum box testing | Post-weld hardness surveys for sour service, ferrite measurement on duplex and stainless welds, and vacuum box leak testing of tank floor and shell seams. |
| Radiographic testing (RT / CR / DR) | Volumetric weld examination by gamma or X-ray, including computed and digital radiography. Requires a radiation source licence, an appointed Radiation Protection Officer, licensed source storage and personnel dosimetry — none of which we hold, so RT is delivered through a licensed radiography contractor under our management. |
SECTION 07 — SHUTDOWN AND TURNAROUND
Shutdown and turnaround support, planned as a schedule not a headcount
A turnaround is won or lost before the plant comes down. Our involvement is structured around the milestones the operator actually gates on — scope freeze, certification and gate-pass readiness, pre-shutdown fabrication, execution, and handover — so mobilisation is a completed task on day one rather than an activity that starts on day one.
-
Scope review and work pack preparation
Review of the worklist against the inspection plan and the RBI recommendations, identification of long-lead spares to be ordered against activity 4773844, pre-fabrication of spools and supports off the critical path, and preparation of work packs with the ITP, JHA and permit requirements attached to each job card.
-
Certification, inductions and gate passes
Certificate verification against the issuing body's records — not a laminated copy — for welders, riggers, NDT technicians, confined-space entrants and HSE personnel; site inductions booked; gate passes and vehicle permits issued; and equipment presented for pre-mobilisation inspection ahead of the shutdown start date.
-
Isolation, blinding and decontamination support
Blinding and de-blinding registers maintained and signed line by line, isolation and lockout/tagout support under the operator's permit-to-work system, gas testing and standby cover, and confined-space entry attendance with rescue provision arranged before the first entry.
-
Mechanical execution
Heat exchanger bundle pulling, hydrojet cleaning, retubing and reinstatement; column and vessel internals; valve removal, workshop servicing and reinstatement; rotating equipment overhaul; on-site machining and flange facing; and controlled bolt torquing and tensioning with a joint register signed off before boxing up.
-
Inspection campaign
NDT and inspection executed against the shutdown inspection plan — thickness surveys, corrosion mapping, PAUT and TOFD on critical welds, PMI where material verification is required, tank floor MFL where in scope — with findings issued daily so an unplanned repair enters the schedule the same day it is found, not at the end of the week.
-
Reinstatement, testing and handover
Leak testing, valve stroking, function testing, preservation and cleanliness verification, punch-list close-out, and a handover dossier that gives the operator the records needed for the next inspection interval — not a box of paper.
-
Manpower surge
Where the shutdown requires a surge crew beyond our own direct personnel, supplementary manpower is supplied through Allive Team Services under its own licence and payroll, with the same certificate verification and induction discipline applied before anyone reaches the gate.
SECTION 08 — CREDENTIALS AND STANDARDS
What we hold, what a partner holds, and what we do not hold
Held and current · Partner-delivered · Not held
No certification is claimed on this page without a certificate number, an issuing body and a stated scope. Where a credential is not held, the line says so in plain words instead of gesturing at a standard. Every item in the first column can be checked today against the Ministry of Commerce and Industry register.

SECTION 09 — QUESTIONS WE ARE ASKED AT PREQUALIFICATION
Frequently asked questions
Are you an accredited inspection body?
No, and we do not describe ourselves as one. Safari Qatar Services builds offshore structures, repairs marine machinery and supplies oilfield material, so we cannot claim ISO/IEC 17020 Type A independence for those same items. We perform contractor quality control within our own scopes, and where an independent accredited certificate is required we contract and manage an accredited body and hand you their certificate. If you need a Type A body appointed directly, we will say so and help you appoint one.
Which inspection scopes can you contract for under your own commercial registration today?
Inspection and quality control delivered as part of a construction, repair or supply contract sits within our licensed activities — 4100013, 452000, 4773163, 4773844 and 4923020. The commercial register does not carry a technical testing and analysis activity, so we do not sell inspection as a standalone, separately invoiced service. Where you need it contracted that way, it goes to a body licensed for it and we manage the interface. We confirm the contracting entity and the licensed activity in writing before any award.
Are your NDT technicians certified, and under which scheme?
NDT certification — ISO 9712, PCN or employer-based SNT-TC-1A — is held by the individual technician, not by the company, and Safari Qatar Services holds no NDT certification of its own. This matters because some Qatari project specifications accept only third-party ISO 9712 or PCN certification and will not accept employer-based SNT-TC-1A certification. Tell us which your specification requires and we will confirm, before mobilisation rather than at the gate, whether the technician proposed for your scope carries it or whether that method is being subcontracted to a company that can staff it.
Can you carry out radiographic testing?
Radiography with gamma sources or X-ray generators requires a radiation source licence from the Ministry of Public Health, an appointed Radiation Protection Officer, licensed source storage, transport approval and personnel dosimetry. Unless and until we hold that licence, RT — including computed and digital radiography — is delivered through a licensed radiography contractor under our management. Where the code permits it, PAUT and TOFD give recordable volumetric data with no source licence and usually less disruption to adjacent work.
Do you supply manpower?
Not under Safari Qatar Services. Supplying labour to another employer in Qatar is a separately licensed activity under the Ministry of Labour and is not on our commercial register. Supplementary manpower is contracted through Allive Team Services under its own licence, sponsorship, payroll and Wage Protection System file. We will tell you which legal entity contracts and which delivers before you place an order — operators read that structure closely, and a main contractor remains accountable for its subcontractors' HSE performance.
What documentation do you issue with supplied material?
EN 10204 3.1 or, where specified, 3.2 mill certificates; heat-number traceability to the individual item; NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliance statements for sour service; packing lists, dimensional and weight records and certificates of origin. Material is supplied to the named specification from licensed manufacturers. API monogram and ASME code stamps are held by the manufacturer; we do not present them as our own credentials.
How quickly can you mobilise to a shutdown?
That depends entirely on the certification position of the crew. Personnel already in Qatar with current inductions, site passes and in-date trade and safety certificates can be at the work front within days. Anyone requiring an overseas visa cycle — offer letter, trade test, medical, attestation, Qatar Visa Centre processing, entry permit and Qatar ID — realistically takes four to eight weeks. We will give you a dated mobilisation plan against your shutdown start, not a headline number.
What are your safety statistics?
We do not publish a rate. A TRIR or LTIF figure means nothing without the exposure hours and the reporting period behind it, and at prequalification those figures are checked line by line against monthly HSE returns — an unsupported number is worse than none. What we do instead is answer the safety section of your prequalification questionnaire in full and in writing, with the record behind each answer, and work to your site HSE requirements and to your own corporate HSE standard for contracts where the contract invokes it.
Can you name your clients?
Not without written consent. Most operator and EPC contracts in Qatar contain publicity clauses, and an unauthorised client name or logo on a supplier website is a fast route to disqualification. So this site carries no client list and no project references. References are provided directly in a prequalification submission, under the confidentiality terms of the contract concerned and where the client has consented to be named.
Who do we contact with a scope of work?
Send the scope, the applicable specification and code, the ITP if one exists, and the required completion date to info@sqs-qa.com, or contact Joby George, General Manager, on +974 6600 8360 or joby.george@sqs-qa.com. Our office is at Al Shoumoukh Tower, Tower B, 12th Floor, C Ring Road, Zone 23, Doha, telephone +974 4413 1497.
ENQUIRY
Send us the specification, not just the enquiry
The fastest quotations we issue are the ones that arrive with a specification, an applicable code, a required certificate type and a date. Send those four things and you will get a technical response rather than a brochure.
